What did you think about this class? (Blog 6)

1.What were your favorite 2 assignments in this class and why?
I enjoyed creating the movie with movie maker, and creating a podcast. I had never done either of these before and they are both great new ways for students to present projects for class, they are aslo great ways for me to do presentations for classes I'm taking now.

2.What are the top 3 technology tools you hope to use in your future classroom/position? (doesn't matter if they were addressed in this class; may include hardware or software)
1. Movie Maker
2. Podcast
3. PowerPoint

3.What piece of technology would you like to get better at, and what are the steps you can take to improve your skills?
I would like to learn more about Windows Movie Maker, I think that I could do this by going to their website and watching some of the tutorials they have there. I'm very excited to learn more about this technology.

DHMO Webiste (Blog 5)

Who wrote or produced the information?
Tom Way

What authority or special knowledge does the author have?
If the site is credited to an organization, what do you know about that organization?
The author doesn't seem to have any authority or special knowledge on this "deadly DHMO." The only organization I can see that the site is credited to is the EAC (Environmental Assessment Center). Whatever that is...I think its fake..

What bias or slant do you detect in the source? What does it say that indicates a bias?
This website is defiantly against DHMO, the people running this site want us to stop drinking, eating or basically consuming this chemical. Which is funny because we'll die if we do that.

Should DHMO be banned? Why or why not?
I'm thinking that banning of DHMO would be a very bad thing for everyone. I mean without it how would anything live. They only way to ban this awful chemical would be to move to a new planet, since ours if made up of about 70% of this chemical.

Podcast Response (Blog 4)

I think that podcasting is a great way for students and teachers to show parents what they are doing in class. It would be really cool if the teacher could pick out a different student each week to podcast about what the class will be doing in th up coming week. I also think that parents that travel would love this, because it would give them away to become more involved in their child's school life.

Digital Story Response (Blog 3)

Rain Forest

I really enjoyed this story. I thought it was a great idea to have the students tell the story by using their artwork. I think that using the students artwork allows parents that travel or can't be around that much a chance to see what their child is doing in school. The students did a wonderful job reading about what they drew. I would love to do this for my class!

HOME

I liked this story. It showed what soldiers go though while fighting for our country. I liked the fact that it didn't really show the war in a positive or negative way. It just showed us what our troops are going through. That to me makes a bigger statement than bashing the war. I really liked the pictures that were used; they all had a purpose and you can tell that it really meant something to her.

Martin Scorsese Response (Blog 2)

I think that Scorsese has a very interesting view when it comes to making movies. I really like the way that he compares watching and making a film to reading. I think it is a great idea to teach film making in schools. I don't think that younger elementary students can be taught how to see films this way. However by maybe fourth or fifth grade students might be ready to start learning how to "read through film." I like his ideas for having children watch movies in schools. He wants them to think about how the story is told differently through a visual medium rather than being read. I think that coming up with as many different ways to teach students is very important as a teacher. There are some kids out there that aren't going to "get it" until you try something different. I have never thought about using a movie as a "reading tool" and now that I have I really like the idea.
I really like that he talks about the violence in his films weren't made for children. I like how he doesn't apologize for the violence in him films, he talks about how violence is a part of life and it isn't meant for young eyes. He seems to be very concerned about not wanting children to see his more violent movies.

Technology Perceptions (Blog 1)

Questions:

1. Who are you and what are you going to teach/do as a result of the degree you're currently seeking?
I am working on getting my degree in Early Childhood Education for the University of West Georgia. I would like to teach either preschool, kindergarten, or first grade.

2. Why are you taking this class and how do you feel about that?
I am taking this class because I have to have it in order to graduate and get my certification. I this is a great class for people who don't know how to use computers

3. What do teachers/others need to know about supporting learning with technology and why do they need to know it?
It is important for teachers to know how to use technology because in our world today students need to start learning how to use technology at a young age. If a student's teacher doesn't know how to use different types of technology, then the students in their class will have a much harder time learning how to adapt to a society that is becoming more technology driven.

4. What do you hope to get out of this class?
I hope to learn more than the basics for the programs i already know how to use. I also want to gather more ideas about how to use more technology in the classroom.

5. What are your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to using technology?
One of my technology strengths is that I am a fast learner and it doesn't take me very long to figure out how to use different programs. One of my weaknesses is that I don't really know how to do more than the basics in most computer programs.

6. Anything else you'd like to add?

I love using technology and think it is a great way for students and teachers to learn more about the world.
